Help us grow our Garden…become a volunteer or a docent!

Garden volunteers and docents play a special role in helping the Water Conservation Garden further its mission of promoting water-conservation in the landscape by connecting people with the rich palette of California-friendly plants and water-wise (xeriscape) landscaping practices that make beautiful gardens in our Southern California climate.

Volunteers work in many areas including horticulture, gift shop, nursery and special events.

Docents are volunteers who are also qualified to offer guided tours and staff the information kiosk after participating in a 6-week training course that covers the Garden’s plants, exhibits, and the seven steps of water-wise gardening.

To apply for a volunteer position, please review the list of volunteer services below to determine your interests.  Then print, fill out, and mail in our volunteer application form.  Or, contact our volunteer coordinator, Laurie Furry, at

Nursery

Propagate succulents, make wreaths, or pot plants.  Take pride in knowing that your products will be sold in the Garden’s Gift Shop!

Tours

Do you enjoy talking to the public?  Become a Garden Docent and qualify to lead informational tours for adults or school-age children.

Gift Shop

Help customers select a new gardening book or choose a unique gift.  You’ll provide retail and clerical services and delight our shoppers with your customer service skills.

Special Events

The Garden hosts three major public events annually and needs your help staffing information tables, selling plants, and helping with pre-event publicity and logistics.  Be an essential part of exciting events that attract visitors in the thousands.
