Categorized as a shrub, this species comes from the Rubiaceae family and is native to New Zealand. The size of this species varies based on location: in more exposed locations, it stays relatively small in height whereas it can grow much taller with a sheltered location. It flowers in the spring and summer. This variety prefers sandy soils and is resistant to salt spray along coastal locations. It works best with overhead sun and mildy acidic to mildly alkaline soil.
