Making a Difference

Water is essential for life. We use it to grow food, keep clean, produce energy, manufacture products, control fires and to stay alive. Even though we are surrounded by water, less than 1% of all water on Earth can be used by people. The rest is salt water or is permanently frozen. Fortunately, there are many ways we can save water.

Kay & Vince McGrath

Local Water Saving Heroes

Twenty years ago, Vince and Kay McGrath attended a presentation where they learned about plans to open The Water Conservation Garden. They decided when they retired, to dedicate their time to creating beautiful educational exhibits at the garden. They even transformed their own yard at home to feature drought-tolerant plants.
Vince founded and for three years chaired the Water-Wise Home Garden Tour, which highlighted local home-owners making an impact in their local community through implementing drought-tolerant landscaping. Vince and Kay have volunteered countless hours, laboring for years to help promote water conservation. Together, they head the “Dirty Docent” team, a group which does trimming, planting, mulching, weeding, and other garden maintenance throughout the entire property weekly.
They support The Water Conservation Garden in hopes to “inspire people to be ‘earth friendly’ and create a garden sanctuary at home”. Vince and Kay understand that water is a precious limited resource and consider The Water Conservation Garden a special place to appreciate nature and spread environmental awareness.
