Field Trips
The Water Conservation Garden proudly presents the Nature Explorers Program, an engaging field trip experience for students in TK through 6th grade. Through hands-on lessons and garden exploration, students discover the wonders of nature while making meaningful connections to science and environmental stewardship.
What Students Will Experience
The Nature Explorer Program is a fun, hands-on field trip that introduces students to gardening, pollinators, plant life cycles, composting, and water conservation. Through interactive activities, children explore the Garden while building curiosity, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
A hands- on journey where science comes to life in the Garden
Discover Nature Through Exploration: Students investigate the living world around them, observing plants, habitats, and natural systems throughout the Garden.
Learn Through Hands-On Discovery: Interactive lessons and activities encourage students to ask questions, make observations, and connect science concepts to real-world examples.
Apply Knowledge in the Garden: Through self-guided exploration, students put their learning into action as they identify, observe, and explore concepts introduced during their lesson.

TK/Kindergarten: Parts of the Plant
Young learners discover the basic parts of a plant and learn how each part helps the plant grow and survive. Through hands-on exploration, students observe real plants and practice identifying plant parts. Students then participate in a self-guided garden exploration, applying what they learned by identifying plant parts throughout the garden.
1st and 2nd Grade: Seed Dispersal
Students explore the fascinating ways seeds travel to new places to grow. Through engaging activities and garden observations, they learn how wind, water, animals, and people help disperse seeds, and why seed dispersal is essential for healthy ecosystems and plant survival. Students conclude the lesson with a self-guided exploration of the garden, searching for examples of seed dispersal in action.
3rd and 4th Grade: Plant Adaptations
Students investigate how plants have adapted to survive in different environments. They explore specialized plant structures and behaviors that help plants conserve water, attract pollinators, defend themselves, and thrive in a variety of habitats. Through hands-on activities, students discover how adaptations allow plants to meet the challenges of their environment.
5th & 6th Grade: Water Capture & Conservation
Students investigate how plants have adapted to survive in different environments. They explore specialized plant structures and behaviors that help plants conserve water, attract pollinators, defend themselves, and thrive in a variety of habitats. Through hands-on activities, students discover how adaptations allow plants to meet the challenges of their environment.
