Ms. Smarty-Plants™

Pam Meisner, founder of Ms. Smarty-Plants™, is a lifelong educator with over 30 years of teaching experience advocating for fun and interactive learning in nature, as well as, bringing conservation into the classroom. In 2008, as Education Specialist of The Water Conservation Garden, Pam founded the Ms. Smarty-Plants™ and Friends Education program. In that first year, Ms. Smarty-Plants™ captivated the community in her colorful overalls with science and gardening. Her program was enjoyed by thousands of children and adults, gaining momentum among schools.

Recognized by the State of California, Ms. Smarty-Plants™ earned The Water Conservation Garden a 2013 GEELA Award, Governors Economic Leadership Award, California’s highest environmental leadership honor. Many awards followed based on youth education programs, science-based curriculum, and community engagement.

In addition to assemblies, field trips and community outreaches for low-income schools, the Ms. Smarty-Plants™ and Friends program is championing monthly literacy programs for early learners, hosting Garden visits for students at the Davila Day Deaf School and mentoring high school/college interns throughout San Diego County.  Ms. Smarty-Plants™ also reaches senior citizens with Alzheimer’s and Dementia, and partners with The American Association for the Blind to bring the beauty of gardening to those with little or no sight.

With her mantra We Can Change The World With Our Own Two Hands!”  Ms. Smarty-Plants™ and Friends inspires each and every individual they meets to be an Earth Hero!
